For Jude’s Life In Colour challenge, our State emblem, which also appears prolifically in the desert – Sturt Desert Pea
It’s such a striking flower and always stands out against the sand of Central Australia, whatever the colour. It is the floral emblem of South Australia, but I have definitely seen more of them in the Northern Territory and few in Western Australia.
From above, you can see that the flower is like a crown of florets.
And when still quite young, the flower is almost completely red, with no black boss in the centre.
They’re for Cee’s FOTD.
Traveling in the Northern Territory, we stopped by the Finke River for a break and saw these peas, not yet with their black eyes.
