It’s such a striking flower and always stands out against the sand of Central Australia, whatever the colour. It is the floral emblem of South Australia, but I have definitely seen more of them in the Northern Territory and few in Western Australia.
From above, you can see that the flower is like a crown of florets.
And when still quite young, the flower is almost completely red, with no black boss in the centre.

So, I found a pink one, draping over these very interesting ‘other’ flowers.
The blossom is Orchid-like, but the leaves variegated. I have no idea what it is, but it’s for Cee’s FOTD.

We’re staying in a caravan park with some stunning trees, covered in red pom poms. I asked the lady in the office what they were and she said Poinciana.
Embarrassing, really. The park is called Poinciana Tourist park.
