For Dan’s Thursday Door challenge, we undertook the self-guided heritage building walk and I captured as many interesting doors as I could.
The opening shot is the old Customs House, circa 1900, currently used as a Discovery Centre for visitors to the area. Very impressive stairways.

The buildings reflect the city’s time as a busy port and a gold rush town.

It’s a very pretty town and easy to get around with the app and hear the history. If you’re in Rocky, spend a couple of hours on the walk.
Nice collection. The custom house is the star and that pink one is fun!!’

The Customs House is very impressive and I like the inside and out church doors. Not sure about the color of that last one though

We couldn’t work out what the building was for, and it wasn’t part of the ‘tour’ but clearly caught the eye. We assumed it was an arts or broadcasting building, due to the red stars on the glasswork, which appear in a radio station in our own State. It would make giving direction very simple.

I thought maybe it was a house of ill repute!

Not in Queensland: it would never be allowed to stand out.

The Customs House is a beautiful building and it looks very well maintained. I love the other doors, as well, especially the wooden door (last in the first group of three). That last building certainly gets your attention.

I’m a sucker for iron lacework and grand portals as a viewer, but the hardiness and homeliness of a wooden door can’t be understated and would be my personal preference.

The Custom House is a beautiful building. It must have been quite a prosperous city. Maggie

It was, but for only for about 60 years, in waves, as fortunes shifted.

What an impressive building that Custom House is, Karen. The whole area looks very upmarket and well cared for. Good-looking doors!

Definitely cared for and still part of the city. I love how they’ve utilised their buildings, even converting old warehouses to apartments. Thank you, Jo.
