I think we have a few train stations quite like that, too. I thought it looked a bit like a wooden floor that someone has shaken like a rug, creating ripples. It didn’t look at all ambiguous in the original, but something about resizing it that blurs the edges.

If you look at the second photo just so, it looks like a deserted train station, it’s wooden rails waiting to vibrate to the next oncoming train!
