In the Riverina region of New South Wales, and on our return route from Canberra, lies Narrandera, Wiradjuri Country. The town is alongside the Murrumbidgee River and was a significant post in the days of the stagecoach run and later the railways.

As a result of the railways, the Star Hotel was built and is currently being restored as the Star Lodge. It offers affordable accommodation in beautifully restored rooms and some shared facilities, including the dining room and balconies.

If you venture about 2km from the hotel you’ll discover the Narrandera Wetlands and can choose from a few seats there, when the water level is low enough, including some bird hides.

A very pretty town that we’d passed through before and thought to explore further. We’ll come this way again.
Xingfumama’s pullupaseat challenge directed my eye many times.
What a wonderful location.

I love those old hotels with the balconies – I have stayed in a couple and they were fabulous.

I feel transported back to 1930 and imagine the men and women who passed some time there.
