There are so many varieties of gum, it’s hard to find which one is which, but this species is prolific in northern South Australia. Sometimes you don’t know they are flowering until you hear the loud excitement of the lorikeets, desperately drawing nectar from them.

My pleasure. The flowers ARE feathery, but the gum nut that’s left, and drops on the ground is very sharp at the end where it joins the tree.

I’m so glad. Me, too. There are a few colours but generally the same shape. No fragrance (unless you are a lorikeet).

Interesting, at first glance I thought this was a bottlebrush. It’s a lovely flower. I can imagine the lorikeets would be deafening.
